What I think about self-directed learning

It is essential for students to be able to think that they have come up with an answer or solved a problem on their own. The sense of accomplishment is so much greater and the motivation is a lot higher in self-directed learning. If a kid thinks they did it themselves they are going to be more likely to try something again and be confident in their own work.

  1. Hey Jaz!

I think you are right on the money when you talk about motivation. When you say "think" they have, the students should actually be coming up with the answers and solutions and feeling a sense of accomplishment.

Remember that repeated success equals confidence, positive self-esteem, risk-taking and more success. So when setting up SDL types of activities, the teacher needs to ensure that the activities can be successfully completed by each student so that success is ensured at a level that demands critical and higher-level thinking skills!

Good job for your first blog entry. For the next one of PBL, i would like to see more writing and goodies to complement your posting!!
